Put your hands in the air!

Alright, thanks. You can put ‘em down now.

The calendar just keeps ticking. The clock rolls along. The sundial… farts, look, it’s been a long time. I’ve been watching Top Gun once a week since January 1st, 2012. It’s in my head. It is in there. It’s jammed real good. And I can’t escape it, no matter how fast I run.

Here are all the times it caught me this week.

Nov. 25, 2012
9:00ish pm EST – Performing in an improv show. John¬†mentioned discovering a new continent in the Indian Ocean. Thought of the onscreen text from the opening of Top Gun: “Indian Ocean. Present Day.” [John probably won’t tell you this, but during the same show, his character had an ex-girlfriend named Laura, who became a significant plot point. This was all his doing. But again, a year of¬†High Fidelity‘s not really affecting him. Nope.]

Nov. 26, 2012
9:30pm EST – “Playing With the Boys” stuck in head for an hour or so.

Nov. 30, 2012
4:05am EST – Started whistling to myself. Turned into the whistling from “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay” and I thought of Maverick being all sad.

Another three-result week. Damn. My mind is a fortress. Do your worst, Tom Cruise.

Oh, wait, I see you’ve already done your worst.
