PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STATE: I am excited. I get to see my lady tomorrow.
REACTIONS OF NOTE:
- “Thinking about flying?” I responded “Meh” with Truman.
- This is the first time I thought, “Yes, Marlon, I would like a beer.”
- This is also the first time that I actually thought about it when Meryl says, “Let’s get you out of those wet clothes.”
- That means sex.
Honestly, I was watching this movie, but I was not in check mentally. I registered everything that was going on, and physically had my eyes glued to the screen, but I was not trying to look for anything or even actively trying to follow the plot. It is the same way I watch any Michael Bay movie.
Almost any Michael Bay movie.
For this viewing, I am simply too focused on the fact that My Lady is flying in from San Francisco tomorrow, as well as the fact I have to drive down to Boston to meet her. I like driving, but I am not very good at navigating through cities. I really just do not give a shit about Truman tonight and I do not think I can even muster up any fake enthusiasm for the movie. I just do not have it in me tonight. The next week is going to be amazing, I can already tell.
I did notice that the movie seemed more like something I just had to do and get out of the way. This made the entire watching experience very annoying. I had to just sit there and let the movie run its course. The movie has become an obstacle, the last thing I have to accomplish before I can go have fun. Homework, dentist visit, the meat before my pudding. Ugh. How can I have any pudding if I do not eat my meat?
Moving on, I do not think that I will ever actively watch The Truman Show after this year. I can already say that with great confidence. I do not think I will have any sort of aversion to the movie, but I can say that I will never make the conscious decision to watch it. I do not even think I will want to subject anyone else to the movie. The movie is not bad, but at the same time, it is not worth knowing about. I existed for twenty-five years without seeing this movie and do not think that I was deprived culturally by not seeing it earlier. It is not like it was The Land Before Time or anything. The first one, that is.
