WHEN: February 15, 2014, 6:55 pm. (Week 7, Feb 9-15.)
WHERE: In my apartment in Portland, ME.
FORMAT: DVD on a 19” AOC LED computer monitor; digital download on an iPhone 3.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STATE: Tired. Enjoyed one Magner’s pear cider.
At the time of this viewing I was still in no mood to be watching, much less analyzing, Avatar. I used the time to sort and do my laundry, and wash the dishes. With the help of my iPhone I was able to keep the screen in front of my face during the entirety of this.
Continually amazed at how long this film takes, at the one-hour mark, I made a point of jotting down, “Fuuuuuuuck. Another hour and a half? really?” [sic] in my notes. A friend had given me the gift of some Magner’s pear cider, and I took this opportunity to enjoy it.
There are no images of pears or cider in Avatar, so here’s a picture of Jake eating a stupid fruit.
Though the cider itself was delicious, the alcohol, as has consistently been the case, only hindered my already poor ability to focus on the film. It also had the unpleasant effect of making the whole affair seem longer.
For a more comprehensive look at why I was having such difficulty with Avatar during this period of time, check out my results post for February.
