Hello, Junior Movie Science Cadets. Bill here. I just wanted to address some of the big developments since my article on George “Buck” Flower (Red the bum in Back to the Future) was picked up by Cinema Blend, Bad Taste, and a tweet by Alex Suskind. First of all, an unending torrent of thanks to each of you for being just as excited as I was over my frantic need to confirm or deny this rumor: that Orgy American Style, the porn film advertised on a marquee in Back to the Future does, in fact, star the actor who portrayed Red the bum at the end.

And you may look at this photo and wonder why I so desperately want to see such a porno.

I feel like some who read the article (or articles about the article) may have missed out on an important part of this story: I haven’t proven anything yet. I’ve only started assembling the pieces. An urban legend beginning to spread simply because it would be interesting if it were true is not my goal. I am on a quest for proof.

Here’s a point-by-point recap of what we know:

1) Futurepedia claims that Orgy American Style is a real porno, made in 1973, directed by Carlos Tobalina and starring Sharon Kelly. They go on to state that George “Buck” Flower, the BTTF bum, also starred in said porno. Their one citation for this supposed fact is a strange-looking filmography page for the actor. This page gives no information on how they obtained this knowledge. It links to a poster, but most of the image is too blurry to read.

Not exactly IMDb, but clearly made by an impassioned individual.

2) A second web page also claims George “Buck” Flower as a performer in Orgy American Style. Both pages indicate the film was released in 1975, though Futurepedia gives the year as ’73. Already, the story has too many holes. (And maybe the film too, zing, let’s move on…)

3) IMDb’s page for George “Buck” Flower lists several pornographic movies that he starred in, under various pseudonyms, including Buck Flower and several varying spellings of C.D. LaFleur. They do not, however, list any film titled Orgy American Style, even under alternate titles.

4) I discovered a larger, clearer version of the poster for Orgy American Style and zoomed in (without enhancing) on the cast list. Several of the actors mentioned on it have worked with George “Buck” Flower on other films. One of these names is Buck LaFleur. This pseudonym has not been used by George “Buck” Flower in any other film that I could find, but seems to be an amalgamation of two of his previous studly names, Buck Flower and C.D. LaFleur.

Could each porn star take one step forward and say, “Crazy drunk driver”?

At this point, the trail goes cold. The most definitive fact I can state from my metaphorical police cork board is that a poster for Orgy American Style contains a name that is very similar to aliases previously used by George “Buck” Flower, the man who plays Red the bum in Back to the Future.

It is too early to call this legend true.

In my original article, I stayed up very late trying to assemble all this information. Not for any exclusive, just out of burning curiosity. I had fire in my eyes. I flooded the other Cinemanauts with links, asking for their help. I pondered waiting to break the story until I had undeniable proof; I had no idea this would be of interest to anyone else. I’m glad this played out the way it did, though, because I need back-up.

Junior Movie Science Cadets, assemble.

I’m going to go on a mad dash of asking around (On BTTF.com! On Snopes! On Trailers From Hell!), but if you have some crucial tidbit to share or an actual copy of Orgy American Style, PLEASE, bring it to Cinema 52. I’ll credit all of you every step of the way, though I’m personally not out for recognition. I just want to confirm what could, honestly, be one really neat fact instead of one really neat but ultimately false fabrication.

Stories are cool. Facts are cooler. Now let’s get to the bottom of this before I die of a daddy longlegs bite.

Yours Truly,
Cinemanaut Bill
